Tens of thousands of children victims of violence and abuse in Germany

Berlin,- Despite police investigations and awareness campaigns, tens of thousands of children are still victims of violence and sexual abuse in Germany, according to data published today.
The Police registered last year 4,247 children who were badly mistreated, a figure slightly higher than the 4,237 of the previous year. Of these, 1,830 were under the age of six and 143 died, compared to 133 in 2016.
These figures were presented today by the president of the Criminal Police Office, Holger Münch, and the person responsible for the organization of Aid to Children, Rainer Becker.
In addition, 13,539 children were victims of rape and other types of sexual violence. Along with this, the authorities added 16,317 cases of possession and dissemination of child pornography material.
