With a two-way video stream displayed on the screen, she was able to remotely control the robot from the hospital.<\/p>\n<p>The gadget was even dressed in a little cap and gown.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m my grandma\u2019s first grandbaby, her first one to \u2026 walk that stage,\u201d Pettway told\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.wkrg.com\/news\/mobile-county\/hospitalized-leflore-high-school-student-virtually-walks-across-stage-at-graduation\/1179259399\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">WKRG<\/a>. \u201cSo I had to walk that stage\u2014and I rolled across that stage.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe has worked very hard to get here and was devastated, so we introduced this idea to her\u2026\u201d said Maddox. \u201cTook us a little while to convince her that although she couldn\u2019t be here physically, she could be here remotely\u2026 And after that she got on board and was very excited about it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The robot stand-in ended up working splendidly. As Pettway was watching the video stream from the hospital alongside 40 family members, she says she started to cry tears of joy.
