Se sabe que una mala calidad de sue\u00f1o repercute en la salud f\u00edsica y mental. La novedad es que el sue\u00f1o inadecuado en la mediana edad aumenta el riesgo de demencias, entre ellas, el Alzheimer.<\/p>\n<p>Un tema que siempre ha desvelado a los cient\u00edficos \u2014nunca mejor aplicado el t\u00e9rmino\u2014 es justamente un problema del huevo y la gallina en la relaci\u00f3n falta de sue\u00f1o y demencia. \u00bfEs realmente la falta de sue\u00f1o un factor de riesgo de la demencia, o los primeros s\u00edntomas de la demencia causan la falta de sue\u00f1o?<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDesde hace alg\u00fan tiempo se sabe que las personas con demencia a menudo tienen un sue\u00f1o deficiente y fragmentado, y nuevos estudios sugieren que si no se duerme lo suficiente, se tiene un mayor riesgo de sufrir esta enfermedad neurodegenerativa\u201d, afirm\u00f3 el doctor Andrew E. Budson, jefe de neurolog\u00eda cognitiva y conductual en Veterans Affairs Boston Healthcare System, profesor de neurolog\u00eda en la Facultad de Medicina de Harvard.<\/p>\n<p>\u00bfDe qu\u00e9 manera impacta la baja calidad de sue\u00f1o en el cerebro?<\/p>\n<p>La doctora Stella Maris Valiensi, (MP 94777) \u2014m\u00e9dica de la secci\u00f3n Trastornos del Sue\u00f1o del Servicio de Neurolog\u00eda del Hospital Italiano de Buenos Aires, presidenta de la Asociaci\u00f3n Argentina de Medicina del Sue\u00f1o y autora del libro \u201cLa ruta del sue\u00f1o\u201d, explic\u00f3 a Infobae que \u201cse ha visto en estudios recientes que las alteraciones del sue\u00f1o ya sean insomnio, somnolencia excesiva, parasomnias (por ejemplo, hablar dormido), apneas obstructivas del sue\u00f1o, el s\u00edndrome de piernas inquietas y otros des\u00f3rdenes son frecuentes a medida que la poblaci\u00f3n envejece, favorecen alteraciones y enfermedades neurodegenerativas\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>M\u00e1s del 50% de las personas tienen problemas de sue\u00f1o. En las \u00faltimas d\u00e9cadas, se ha evidenciado que debido a mayores exigencias sociales\/laborales, se tiende a dormir menos horas lo que causa una privaci\u00f3n cr\u00f3nica de sue\u00f1o (Imagen Ilustrativa Infobae)<\/p>\n<p>El doctor Jo\u00e3o Roberto Resende Fernandes, m\u00e9dico de urgencias y personal cl\u00ednico, preceptor de la residencia de Cl\u00ednica M\u00e9dica del Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein, de Brasil, explic\u00f3 en un art\u00edculo en el portal de la instituci\u00f3n que en el caso de la apnea del sue\u00f1o, los ronquidos son la consecuencia m\u00e1s f\u00e1cilmente percibida de este trastorno, pero no la m\u00e1s grave. \u201cLas pausas involuntarias en la respiraci\u00f3n hacen inviable el sue\u00f1o profundo, provocando un importante desgaste en el cuerpo.
