{"id":3587,"date":"2018-04-26T21:36:46","date_gmt":"2018-04-26T21:36:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/noti-america.com\/site\/alemania\/?p=3587"},"modified":"2018-04-26T21:36:46","modified_gmt":"2018-04-26T21:36:46","slug":"no-doomsday-scenario-for-facebook-as-eu-privacy-rules-kick-in","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/noti-america.com\/site\/principal\/2018\/04\/26\/no-doomsday-scenario-for-facebook-as-eu-privacy-rules-kick-in\/","title":{"rendered":"No Doomsday scenario for Facebook as EU privacy rules kick in"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"container_2tb_t\">\n<div class=\"upper-container_3g5eM\">\n<div class=\"foreground\">\n<div class=\"container_385r0 fluid-left_3DYLH\">\n<div class=\"column_1uZPg left_qEP9d\">\n<div class=\"content-container_3Ma9y\">\n<p class=\"headline_2zdFM\"><span style=\"font-size: 16px\">FRANKFURT \u00a0&#8211; As Europe nears tough new privacy rules, Facebook (<\/span><span id=\"\u201dsymbol_FB.O_0\u201d\" style=\"font-size: 16px\"><a href=\"https:\/\/uk.reuters.com\/business\/quotes\/overview?symbol=FB.O\">FB.O<\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 16px\">) reckons the worst that could happen is that users will share less data, making it harder to target ads on the social network that raked in revenues of $12 billion (8.6 billion pounds) in the first quarter.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"container_385r0 content_C2jxE fluid-left_3DYLH\">\n<div class=\"column_1uZPg left_qEP9d\">\n<div class=\"container_17wb1\">\n<div class=\"body_1gnLA\">\n<div class=\"container_2pnvl\">\n<div class=\"container_1tVQo\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>That\u2019s despite the furore sparked by its admission that the personal data of 87 million of its users was passed to a company, Cambridge Analytica, that advised U.S. President Donald Trump\u2019s election campaign.<\/p>\n<p>CEO Mark Zuckerberg was grilled for two days by U.S. lawmakers over the leak, yet he and his management team weren\u2019t even asked by analysts about a possible clampdown by regulators after Facebook reported a 49-percent jump in first-quarter revenues.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t know that we really see a Doomsday scenario here,\u201d Chief Financial Officer David Wehner said when asked about the worst possible outcome of the new privacy regime. There could be minor limitations to data usage that might have an impact on targeting for Facebook\u2019s advertisers, Wehner added.<\/p>\n<p>Facebook, like other consumer tech companies, has overhauled its terms of service to bring them into line with the European Union\u2019s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). The rules require requests to gather data to be made in easily understood language, and give users greater rights over that information.<\/p>\n<p>Crucially, the social network has said it won\u2019t let users opt out of targeted ads that account for most of its revenues. They will be able to limit the amount of data gathered, however, creating the potential for marginal attrition of revenues.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe biggest risk facing Facebook is that changes from GDPR-type regulations will limit the targeting capabilities of advertisers and thus the willingness to keep spending,\u201d said analyst Michael Nathanson of Moffett Nathanson Research.<\/p>\n<p>There was no evidence that Facebook would be affected more than its digital competitors, he added in a research note: \u201cIt is probable that Facebook emerges comparatively stronger in this new world.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Investors seemed to agree, sending Facebook shares 9 percent higher as the stock market opened on Thursday.<\/p>\n<div class=\"container_2INI3\">\n<div class=\"module-container_hxJdf\">\n<div class=\"quote-container\">\n<div class=\"quote-data-container_3GKfw\">\n<div class=\"header_O5Rnc\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<h3>DOING ENOUGH?<\/h3>\n<p>Analysts &#8211; both bullish and bearish &#8211; reckon Facebook is doing enough to avoid the wrath of European regulators who, when GDPR takes effect on May 25, will gain the power to fine it up to 4 percent of annual revenues for serious privacy violations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe think Facebook are being sincere with GDPR,\u201d said Christopher Rossbach, chief investment officer at J.
