Siendo el Melanoma Cut\u00e1neo Maligno (MMC) el m\u00e1s letal, aun cuando es una de las patolog\u00edas oncol\u00f3gicas m\u00e1s prevenibles<a href=\"#_ftn1\" name=\"_ftnref1\">[1]<\/a>. En Colombia, el melanoma maligno afecta aproximadamente a m\u00e1s de 4 por cada 100.000 personas<a href=\"#_ftn2\" name=\"_ftnref2\">[2]<\/a>, Adem\u00e1s el c\u00e1ncer de piel se mantiene como la patolog\u00eda tumoral maligna con mayor n\u00famero de casos nuevos diagnosticados en el Instituto Nacional de Cancerolog\u00eda.<a href=\"#_ftn3\" name=\"_ftnref3\">[3]<\/a><\/p>\n<p>El MCC es el responsable de la mayor\u00eda de las muertes por c\u00e1ncer de piel, aun cuando es una de las patolog\u00edas oncol\u00f3gicas m\u00e1s prevenibles, considerando que en particular tiene un principal detonante: la sobreexposici\u00f3n al sol. De hecho, se calcula que nueve de cada diez pacientes desarrollan esta patolog\u00eda a causa de los rayos ultravioleta.<\/p>\n<p>Es por ello que la aplicaci\u00f3n de bloqueador solar de manera obligatoria, y evitar una larga exposici\u00f3n a los rayos UV, son claves para prevenir que alg\u00fan tipo de lesi\u00f3n maligna se active en la piel, haciendo de la protecci\u00f3n al sol un estilo de vida independiente al estado del clima.<\/p>\n<p>Esta recomendaci\u00f3n es a\u00fan m\u00e1s urgente luego del anuncio que realiz\u00f3 la Organizaci\u00f3n Mundial de las Naciones Unidas (ONU), que declar\u00f3 a la tierra en proceso de ebullici\u00f3n, debido a un incremento cr\u00edtico de las temperaturas.<\/p>\n<p>El comportamiento de cualquier tipo de c\u00e1ncer usualmente es silencioso e indoloro, el cual se puede acompa\u00f1ar de compromiso a distancia, siendo la detecci\u00f3n temprana la clave para prevenir el aumento en su incidencia. En este caso, existen factores que nos ayudan a anticipar la posibilidad de estar ante una lesi\u00f3n sospechosa de c\u00e1ncer: estar atentos a cambios de tama\u00f1o, color o malformaciones de lunares, aparici\u00f3n de manchas o antecedentes familiares, sobre todo en personas con piel de tono claro.<\/p>\n<p>Para la detecci\u00f3n temprana de una lesi\u00f3n tumoral, podemos contar con la ayuda de un examen de medicina nuclear, como lo es la tomograf\u00eda por emisi\u00f3n de positrones (PET-CT), quien se ha convertido en un gran aliado a la hora de apoyar un diagn\u00f3stico precoz y oportuno, permitiendo un tratamiento dirigido. Este sistema h\u00edbrido integra un componente PET (informaci\u00f3n funcional), con un componente CT (informaci\u00f3n anat\u00f3mica) el cual es capaz de obtener y fusionar ambas modalidades, resaltando que la imagen funcional, nos permite anticipar o evidenciar lesiones sospechosas antes de que presenten cambios anat\u00f3micos.<\/p>\n<p>Al conseguir una imagen de mayor calidad y precisi\u00f3n, es posible identificar r\u00e1pidamente un tejido sospechoso de malignidad en sus primeras etapas, lo que permite ayudar a prevenir y reducir las tasas de mortalidad debido a los melanomas. La tecnolog\u00eda PET-CT es una herramienta eficiente y un muy valioso avance tecnol\u00f3gico, capaz de salvar vidas al ser utilizado oportunamente en este tipo de c\u00e1ncer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEl cuidado de la piel es muy importante, hay muchas personas que no toman las precauciones necesarias para cuidarse del sol. Por lo que es de gran importancia no solo estar alerta a las se\u00f1ales y s\u00edntomas, sino acudir a los m\u00e9dicos especialistas expertos, para un adecuado diagn\u00f3stico de esta patolog\u00eda oncol\u00f3gica.
